In Canada, gambling is a provincial matter. Under the Criminal Code (section 207), only a province may conduct and manage gambling, or license others to do it. So the answer depends on where you are physically located when you play.

Is online gambling legal in Canada?
Yes, when it is run or licensed by the province where you are located. The Criminal Code lets each province conduct and manage gambling. Ontario and Alberta license private operators; every other province allows only its own government site.
Are offshore casino sites legal in Canada?
A site that is not run or licensed by your province is not authorized there, even if it holds a licence from somewhere else, such as Malta or Curaçao.
Is single-event sports betting legal?
Yes. Since 27 August 2021 provinces may offer betting on single games, not only parlays.
Are gambling winnings taxable in Canada?
For most people, no. The Canada Revenue Agency does not tax lottery winnings, and casual gambling wins are not income. Winnings can be taxable if gambling is run as a business, and interest earned on winnings is taxable.
